PICTURES & STATUES Country Club Cincinnati presents the group exhibition, PICTURES & STATUES, an inelegant approach to the examination of the role of objects in post-digital culture. Rather than resting on theory, this project will build an idiosyncratic point / counter-point discussion through the images and objects on display. Among the questions posed: Can the mere act of framing an exhibition under this rubric yield a meaningful conversation about “things”?; how meaningful are the distinctions between handmade, machined, mass produced and digital/virtual objects?; can a digital image reveal a history?; is “art” a thing or just made of things?; will anxiety around the status of the object intensify or lessen as we move toward this “de-materialized” culture?; can the object/image gain status in a post-digital society?
