FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Country Club Cincinnati is pleased to present this three-person exhibition which engages a cross-generational conversation employing the language and strategies of the graphic arts.

Matthew Brannon's work recalls the iconography of printed advertisement from the mid-20th century and carries an ongoing interest in the intersection of image and text. Brannon utilizes printmaking techniques such as screen-printing and letterpress to create unique works. Similarly, Katarina Burin combines screen-printing with painting and drawing techniques, in this case, to re-contextualize images from matchbook covers focusing on an international selection of Modernist structures and designs. Promotional gifts from hotels and restaurants re-presented as a visual essay on leisure, commerce, advertising and painting. Charley Harper (1922-2007) was a prolific designer, artist and illustrator based in Cincinnati, Ohio. His work on the Ford Times travel magazine in the 1950s brought his particular sensibility to a wide-ranging audience in America. Harper's Modernist approach to wildlife and travel imagery has proven to be tremendously influential to subsequent generations of artists and designers. For this exhibition, Burin and Brannon's work will be exhibited alongside rarely-seen preliminary drawings for some of Harper's most famous screenprints.

Matthew Brannon has had solo exhibitions at the Whitney Museum of American Art at Altria; Friedrich Petzel Gallery, NY; David Kordansky Gallery, LA. Matthew has participated in group shows with the following venues: The 2008 Whitney Biennial; The Rubell Family Collection, Miami; Institute of Contemporary Art, London; White Columns, NY; Museum of Modern Art, NY.

Katarina Burin lives and works in Berlin. Katarina has held solo and group exhibitions in such venues as Andreas Grimm, NY/Munich; Galerie Lucile Corty, Paris; China Art Objects, LA; Participant Inc., NY; Galerie Max Hetzler, Berlin; White Columns, NY.

Charley Harper has had museum exhibitions with the Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati and the Cincinnati Art Museum. During his lifetime Charley completed several commissions for the National Park Board and installed murals inside the John Weld Peck Federal Building, Cincinnati and the Ford Rotunda Building, Dearborn, MI. In 2007, Harper's work was the subject of major survey book "Charley Harper: An Illustrated Life" edited by Todd Oldham.
